چکیده

In this appendix, we provide a detailed derivation of our results. To this end, we first provide some more detailed background on the entropic quantities we use in Section I. In Section II we show that the splitting inequality (16) is satisfied in any deterministic non-contextual hidden variable model (NC-HV model for short). This is a minor twist on the existing classical proof [1] due to Wullschleger [2]. Finally, in Section III, we proceed to prove our main result, that there exists a quantum encoding which strongly violates the splitting inequality (16).

Does ignorance of the whole imply ignorance of the parts? Large violations of noncontextuality in quantum theory.

A central question in our understanding of the physical world is how our knowledge of the whole relates to our knowledge of the individual parts. One aspect of this question is the following: to what extent does ignorance about a whole preclude knowledge of at least one of its parts? Relying purely on classical intuition, one would certainly be inclined to conjecture that a strong ignorance of ...

Distributed Contingency Logic and Security

In information security, ignorance is not bliss. It is always stated that hiding the protocols (let the other be ignorant about it) does not increase the security of organizations. However, there are cases that ignorance creates protocols. In this paper, we propose distributed contingency logic, a proper extension of contingency (ignorance) logic. Intuitively, a formula is distributed contingen...

Analysis of "the Vittues of Ignorance" from Julia Driver’s Viewpoint

With an emphasis on Julia Driver’s ideas about virtue, this paper intends to illustrate an approach on virtues that despite of accepting general frameworks, it attempts to weaken the genuine role of knowledge in Aristotelian ethics and defines and justifies some important virtues based on ignorance and unawareness. The virtues in his view include modesty, trust, forgiveness, spontaneous courage...

The distributive ignorance puzzle∗

We observe that verbs like wonder do not just imply that their subject does not know the answer to the embedded question, but a stronger form of ignorance, which we call distributive ignorance. This is not predicted by existing work on the semantics of wonder, and we argue that it cannot be straightforwardly derived as a pragmatic inference either. We consider two possible semantic accounts, an...
